Materials for Rubber Gaskets
Silicone Rubber – An elastomer composed of silicone that is generally non-reactive, stable, and resistant to extreme environments and temperatures.
Flurosilicone Rubber – Flourosilicone is very similar to silicone. The differentiating factor is that the material exhibits an enhanced chemical resistance. It is used in many applications requiring contact with oils or fuels.
Viton® Fluoroelastomer – This highly durable material performs extremely well amid harsh chemicals and extreme temperatures.
Neoprene – This rubber material has superb weathering and ozone resistance, making it ideal for a range of outdoor uses.
EPDM – This material resistant to heat, weather, and steam, and also functions as an excellent electrical insulator.
Nitrile (Buna-N) – Widely used and economical, excellent resistance to oils, fuels, fluids, water, and alcohols. It also exhibits low compression set, high tensile strength, and high abrasion resistance.
Santoprene™ thermoplastic rubber – Offers excellent sealing performance, resistance to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and abrasion.
Hypalon™ chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE) synthetic rubber (CSM) – Noted for its resistance to chemicals, temperature extremes, and ultraviolet light.
SBR – Styrene-Butadiene “Red Sheet” – General purpose rubber sheet material often used for gasket and sealing applications where oil resistance is not needed.
