Marian Hosts First Virtual 5K Walk/Run for North American Locations
As COVID-19 has continued to throw us one curve ball after another since early March, we’ve had to adapt and learn how to do things differently. The same goes for the annual events we host for our employees. Each year, Marian employees across the country look forward to a variety of annual events along with periodic visits from employees from our sister locations. With events being postponed due to coronavirus along with all travel to and from our sister locations, we felt like we needed come up with something that could help bring us together, and our solution was our first virtual 5K.
Before we knew it, Marian’s first Virtual 5K Walk/Run was scheduled. Employees from all of our North American locations and their friends, family, and even pets were invited to participate in this virtual event that brought everyone “together” while promoting wellness. With an entire weekend to fit in a 5K at a location and time of their choice, the options of how to participate were endless.
Our 5K Weekend
Our employees and their family and friends walked, ran, jogged, hiked, and even biked their 3.1 miles (and more for some)! Participants had all weekend to get their miles in. We also hosted an Virtual Opening Ceremony on Zoom for attendees to join on Saturday morning so they could see where others were participating from, say hello, and still feel like we were together.
Presidents from each of our US locations along with participants from all over the country dropped in to say hi and wish each other luck. Employees also posted pictures on social media to share their 5K experience. In total, we had more than 250 participants sign up, and together we participated in 6 states!
Though we weren’t all able to be together in person, this event allowed us all to feel closer and like we were one team. Because this event was received so well, we look forward to making it a permanent event for Marian employees across the nation to remind them that they truly are our biggest asset and that together we are all one Marian family.
